In these two Discourse, Avatar Adi Da explains the real significance of waking, dreaming, and deep sleep for Spiritual practice. Avatar Adi Da points to the depth of existence that is always the case, regardless of the changing states of awareness (waking, dreaming, and sleeping). And He Calls for ego-transcending practice (sadhana) to be engaged at this depth—so that What Is Prior to all conditional states can be Realized.

From August 26, 2004, Avatar Adi Da Samraj Responds to a questioner who asks how she can practice devotion in her dream state

From September 4, 2004 , Avatar Adi Da Speaks to another questioner about her mother’s suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and the transcending of attention in maturing Spiritual practice.

LISTEN TO AN AUDIO EXCERPT

Devotees who take their practice of the relationship to Me seriously should understand that all of the stages of the process previous to the “Perfect Practice” are dealing with extensions of the Primary Condition, and are about outgrowing the bondage of attention to gross and subtle fixations. This process is like going to sleep in some sense, it is like dying in some sense. It is not negative. It is a process that leads to Ultimacy, to the transcending of egoity itself, the transcending of the illusion of separate consciousness. It leads to the Realization of the State That Is Always Already The Case. Therefore, that maturing in practice should be anticipated with great pleasure, as one who feels tired anticipates a nice rest.
