His observation, still in infancy, that others did not live in this manner led Him to undertake an awesome quest—to discover why human beings suffer and how they can transcend that suffering. His quest led Him to a confrontation with the bleak despair of post-industrial Godlessness, to a minute examination of the workings of subjective awareness, to discipleship in a lineage of profound Yogis, to a period of intense Christian mysticism, and finally to a Re-Awakening to the perfect state of “Brightness” He had known at Birth.

In The Knee of Listening, Avatar Adi Da also reveals His own direct awareness of His “deeper-personality vehicles”—the beings whose lives were the direct antecedents (or the “pre-history”) of His present human Lifetime—the great nineteenth-century Indian Realizers Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda.

Finally, Avatar Adi Da describes the series of profound transformational events that took place in the decades after His Divine Re-Awakening—each one a form of “Yogic death” for which there is no recorded precedent.
